What is Protectors of Homeless Pets of Carteret County?
PHPCC effectiveness is no small feat! The number of dogs and cats that
the organization has paid to have altered YTD 09/30/2023 are: 91 dogs
and 211 cats. And the dogs and cats keep coming into the shelter...especially the cats!
Protectors of Homeless Pets of Carteret
County, a 501 (c) 3 public charity, was organized in July of 2012
when it became apparent that the Carteret County Humane Society
shelter was in need of some extra funds and man-power. The shelter’s
budget was only covering those medications required by state law,
for instance rabies vac-cine. In order to stay healthy while
awaiting their forever homes, the animals needed more, such as pain
medication, medicine to prevent kennel cough, flea and heartworm
protection and often a visit or two to a vet, just to name a few.
Thus Protectors of Homeless Pets of Carteret County focuses on fund
raising to provide these needed medicines and veterinary care and
also to get as many animals as possible spayed or neutered prior to
being adopted. We want to make sure that former shelter animals do
not contribute to the problem that our county already has of
pet overpopulation.
Many members of PHPCC also actively volunteer at
the shelter walking dogs, caring for the cats and helping out with other
jobs around the shelter, because the monies provided by Carteret County
does not allow the shelter to hire enough help to provide some of these
"extras". PHPCC welcomes new members and donations at any time as we
continue to support the management, staff and animals of the Carteret
County
